I’ve been seeing an increasing number of political posts in my Social Media feeds lately. I’ve gotten political, ISIS, Obama bashing, etc. emails. Now I am not ignorant to the fact that there is a lot that is wrong in our world. Thanks to technology we can see images from across the globe, create memes, share videos, etc. and reach thousands with a click of a button.
Now, while I know we need to be aware, and that we need to not be ignorant of what is happening on our globe, most of the information that I see is served up in such a way that it incites fear. Fear of the future, fear of what might happen if….if Iran gets a nuke, if ISIS pushes their agenda into the US, if Hillary becomes president, and the list goes on and on.
Philippians chapter 4 tells us ” Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (emphasis mine)
Last I checked, most of the things that I see in my inbox, social media newsfeed, or on CNN don’t fit the criteria of honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable.
If you want to make a difference in this world, if you want to turn the tide of culture, if you want change the outcome of elections, if you want to stop ISIS, there is something you can do. You can hit your knees in prayer and cry out to a just God for His Kingdom to be revealed in this earth. The verses in Philippians also tell us, “Don’t worry about anything: instead, pray about everything.”
There is power in prayer. The course of nations have been changed because of prayer. Peace has come to war torn nations because of prayer. People, marriages and families have been restored because of prayer. Praying is NOT doing nothing, but it is invoking the very kingdom of heaven into situations, peoples lives and even physical places. It’s time to pray like never before and not succumb to fear. In the 30 seconds that it takes to hit the share button, forward an email, create a meme, etc. What if we prayed? What it we asked for the Kingdom of Heaven to invade our nations capitol, the middle east, etc?
If you’ve never been a person of prayer, I’m asking you to consider it. Being a person of prayer doesn’t mean you have to spend hours on your face before God, (for some it does!, but not everyone), but what if instead of hitting the share or forward button, we took 30 seconds to pray about that situation and then trust God that He is in control. What if when confronted with yet one more thing that is wrong in our broken world, we prayed?
Food for thought….
